Donna
9 to 5 . . .Well,
at least that's how some people describe a day job. When
Tommy and I started dating, he quickly realized that he wasn't the
only one with an unusual schedule. When he accused me of loving
my job more than I loved him, I had to reiterate my love priority list
- My love for him and my children, then of course there's my love for
Mexican food. No where on that list was job mentioned! However,
with all due respect for Tommy's concerns, my job is very demanding
at times when others would likely be dozing off in their recliners
with a bowl of chocolate ice cream.

I head up Community
Relations for Sprint in
Atlanta. Sprint - the long distance carrier. When I recently
spoke to a group of second graders at Grove Park Elementary, I asked
if anyone could tell me anything about Sprint. One little boy
was jumping around in his seat, waving his hand back and forth (the
way Johnny always does in the "Johnny" jokes). "Sprint
gives you 10 cents a minute," he said. Realizing the
danger of 30+ kids going home and telling their parents that Sprint
now pays its customers 10 cents a minute just for using their telephone
lines, I had to applaud and correct little Johnny at the same time
on his bold and almost right answer. The power of advertising
always amazes me!
Unlike
most people would think, Community Relations differs from public relations. My
job is to represent Sprint in the Atlanta community -- in our efforts
with United Way, The Atlanta Project, the school systems and events
benefiting healthcare organizations. I also chair our company's
Atlanta community relations team, the volunteer arm of Sprint with
more than 31 members responsible for over 25 events throughout the
year. Our project results ultimately reflect Sprint's image as
a good corporate citizen. It's an incredibly rewarding job!I'll
be sharing community relations pictures as they become available. So,
check back often. |
